Mejia Earns Second Straight Podium in Race One at Road America

A wet track made for an interesting race as drivers struggled for grip. Race one started out very promising for the MINI JCW Team but problems soon followed.

Mark Pombo in the #59 STEP MINI JCW qualified second and took possession of the lead on the first lap.

Mat Pombo was making his debut for the team in TC America and followed right behind Mark.

But only a few minutes later Mat’s MINI developed a misfire that forced him to pit and took him out of contention for the race.

With 25 minutes left it look like the MINIs were in complete control of the race. They were running 1-2-3 with Mark, Nate Norenberg, and Tomas Mejia respectively.

Unfortunately just a few minutes later Norenberg had a huge off and slammed into the wall with the driver’s side of the car. He came spinning across the track and Mejia barely avoided him.

Mark then had his own issues causing him to fall back in the order leaving Mejia as the team’s best chance at victory.

Mejia put up a good fight with Nick Witmer in the #91 and eventual race winner Nick Halderman in the #69 on his way to a third place finish.

This was Mejia’s second consecutive podium finish and he’s looking like a great addition to the team.

Race two takes place tomorrow at 12:10 PM EST.
